| | | Saving the Lands that Shaped America
As America approaches our 250th anniversary, the Open Space Institute (OSI) is celebrating some of the lands that witnessed our nation’s founding. From New York’s Saratoga Battlefield, which marked a pivotal point in the Revolutionary War; to the Hudson Highlands where Benedict Arnold made his flight from capture; and on to the impenetrable swamps of the South Carolinian Lowcountry where General Francis Marion outmaneuvered British forces, OSI has protected some of the Revolutionary War’s most notable landscapes. Read on to explore some of OSI’s work in locations where history and conservation come together. |

In New York’s Adirondack Park, a 1,500-acre former Boy Scout camp is poised for a new chapter. Recently acquired by OSI, the vast property encompasses tranquil ponds, scenic trails, important wildlife habitat, carbon-rich forests, and miles of shoreline along Lows Lake. Once transferred by OSI to the state, this remarkable place will be opened to the public for new outdoor experiences in one of the Adirondacks’ most remote regions. |

The newly created Old Beech Hill State Forest in South Carolina’s Lowcountry marks a major conservation win: spanning more than 1,600 acres saved by OSI and partners, it augments a vital green corridor between conserved areas in fast-growing Dorchester County. OSI gathered with partners to celebrate the opening of a landscape that will expand outdoor recreation, while safeguarding wildlife habitat and clean water sources. |

In New York’s Orange County, OSI and cadets from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point completed a new trail bridge at the former Camp LaGuardia site, which is on track to become a new county park. The project gave cadets hands-on design and construction experience while creating a lasting asset for future park visitors. This year’s bridge marked the 10th completed as part of OSI’s longstanding partnership with West Point to improve recreational infrastructure at parks in the Hudson Valley. |
